September 18, 2004: Precept Ministries Men’s Breakfast & Leadership Workshop (2)

Rick Moir and I attended the second Precept Ministries Leadership Network Workshop in Brantford, west of Toronto. Over 20 men from many churches around the Western Ontario area attended this workshop on the First Step in Mentoring and Discipleship.

The objectives of the Leadership Network is to build men’s ministry contacts, share men’s ministry successes and growth areas, introduce new men’s ministry suggestions, train and equip groups to use the “40-Minute” studies and  gather often to encourage men’s ministries.

The day started off at 8:00am with a welcome by Tom Hart, Director of Precept Ministries Canadian office. A wonderful continental breakfast was served before the first session. The workshop presenters included Pastor Jack Correll of Guelph Bible Chapel and Tom Hart of Precept Ministries. The focus of the sessions was on building men’s ministries through Mentoring and Discipleship.

The ‘40-Minute’ study book entitled “Being a Disciple: Counting the Cost” co-authored by Kay Arthur and Tom & Jane Hart of Precept Ministries was used as the class material. It was emphasized that this book can be used on its own as a core study for a beginning men’s group or as a tool for those interested in leading men in a church setting.

After a great mini-session, where we went through the First Section of the study book, two small break-out sessions were formed to discuss mentoring issues in more detail. Later, they came together to share insights from both groups. It turns out that many churches either have a vibrant and well organized Men’s ministry or else, there is virtually none existing. The expectation of the Leaders Training Mornings is to enhance already existing ministries and help kick-start new ones based on men sharing God’s Word.

This was followed by a wonderful Bar-be-que lunch and a time of sharing.

This day was the second of hopefully many more Leadership Network mornings focussing on building strong men’s ministries and showing how the Bible speaks about men’s leadership roles in the Christian world through 40-Minute Bible Studies. The hope is that men will take this back to their churches and get more men ‘into the Word’

Ann Rogers of Precept Ministries assisted on the day in the bookshop, organizing the breakfast and snacks and with her fiancée helped with the Bar-be-que.

Here are a few pictures from the day.
